With the countdown to the start of Flow CARIFTA 2018 set for March 30 - April 2 in Nassau, Commonwealth Bank today announced a $30,000 donation to boost coffers for the host country. This will be the 8th time The Bahamas plays host to the premier track and field meet. Some 600 athletes along with 100 team officials from 26 countries are expected to descend on Nassau with track and field stars and superstars competing in 65 events.
“Commonwealth Bank is pleased to support this prestigious event which shines a spotlight on young people in keeping with our commitment to Bahamian youth and education,” said Denise Turnquest, Sr. Vice President and COO Commonwealth Bank. “CARIFTA, which was started in 1972 as an adjunct to the formation of CARICOM, brings all the countries of the region together helping to create bonds of commonality and friendship in the face of exciting competition. These games shine a light on our athletes, our country and our commitment to excel."
The cheque presentation from the leading Bahamian bank with $1.6 billion in assets and more than 6,000 shareholders took place at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

Michael Pintard, Minister of Youth, Sports & Culture. “Sports is an important vehicle that contributes to national development. Participants learn discipline, team work, determination and how to compete clean - all important lessons our people require to grow and succeed. Sports enables many Bahamians to gain employment and ownership. It facilitates scholarships, helps us stay fit, de-stress and travel the world as ambassadors of their country. Your contribution will make a difference."
