The Casino division at Atlantis, Paradise Island recently presented a cheque donation to The Bahamas Crisis Center as part of the division’s “Change for Change” charity programme. The initiative gives casino patrons the option to donate their TITO slot tickets to a designated charity.

“The Casino team is committed to supporting the work being carried out in our communities and assisting those who need our help so we came up with the Change for Change programme,” explains Anishka Hunt, Director of Slots.

“We understand that many of our customers feel the same as we do and what we’ve done is we’ve attached locked 8” x 8” clear Plexiglas boxes to the Casino’s ticket redemption kiosks on the main casino floor with signage indicating the name and objective of the chosen charity.

The ticket redemption kiosks do not dispense coins, but they will dispense another ticket for any balance (change) less than $1.00.

This ‘change’ ticket may be redeemed at the Casino Cage, or the patron may opt to donate the ticket to the designated charity.  They can also choose to make a cash or chip deposit.

“Change for Change” allows them to give to local charity, if they want to – we do not encourage or try to solicit funds from them,” she added.

According to Hunt, keys to the locked boxes are kept at the Casino Security Desk and the Atlantis Casino Management team, which includes Shift Managers, will be tasked with maintaining the boxes and checking them routinely.

Once a box is adequately filled, Casino Security is called and the box is then emptied under the supervision of Casino Surveillance.

The tickets are then turned into the Casino Cage where they are properly scanned, according to normal procedures, and deposited to an account named ‘Casino Programme, Change for Change.’

One Bahamian charity organization will be the chosen focus for a six-month period - January 1 to June 30 and July 1 to December 31 - every year.

The Casino team will research and recommend organizations for participation, meeting the standards of the Atlantis Casino division and the Gaming Board of the Bahamas.

“We feel this programme embraces the Atlantis core value of Respect.

We respect the community and the efforts of various Bahamian charity organizations that seek to bring change to the lives of its recipients,” says Hunt, adding, “As good corporate citizens, we encourage our patrons and colleagues to support the work being carried out in our community and assist those who need our help.”
