Along the Eastern seaboard from the District of Columbia to New York, as the winter weather raged across the coastline, representatives from The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism took the opportunity to share about the mild weather in the Bahamas as well as its beauty and even accessibility. The opportunity to share on The Bahamas was presented at the recent consumer based Travel Shows - Travel and Adventure Show, in DC and the New York Times Travel Show.

Both of the shows annually boast attendance of 20,000 and above and draw attendees to the DC show from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and even Philadelphia and in the case of the New York Times Show from Newark, Connecticut and even some parts of Philadelphia.

The Islands of The Bahamas over the years have taken part in these shows to provide information on all that the country has to offer. At the recent New York Times Show, the message emphasized was the beauty, diversity and multiplicity of The Bahamas Family Islands. Large numbers of attendees visited the Bahamas booth to take photos with costumed Bahamas Carnival models as well as body painted models.

As is usually the case in New York, in addition to the consumers and Travel Agents attending, there were large numbers of media including bloggers, many who took to Social media to share on The Bahamas with hashtags including #bahamas, #newyorktimestravelshow, #itsbetterinthebahamas #travelshow.

At the DC Travel and Adventure Show, in addition to being given the opportunity to network with both consumers and travel agents at their booth, the culture of The Bahamas was featured. A group of Bahamian Junkanoo performers took to the Show's Global Beat Stage and conducted a demonstration of The Bahamas premier cultural Festival. They showcased the instruments that are used to provide the musical sounds and provided a brief history of the Festival - which takes place twice annually in the city of Nassau (and many of the other Bahamian Islands on a smaller scale), the day after Christmas (Boxing Day) and the first day of each New Year.

During the two shows, the Bahamas marketing teams also took the opportunity to bring awareness to the direct airlift to The Bahamas from BWI, DCA, JFK and LGA. The teams also promoted the upcoming seasonal flights to Freeport, Grand Bahama with Vacation Express, that will begin this summer, out of Baltimore, MD and Newark, New Jersey.
