Severe Weather Warning

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning from 10:45 AM UNTIL 12:45 PM FRIDAY 12TH JANUARY 2018.

A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR LONG ISLAND, RUM CAY, SAN SALVADOR AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 10:45 AM OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A TROUGH ACROSS THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS.

SOME OF THESE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
