Children at the Bahamas Emergency Hostel got a special surprise last evening when several employees of PwC Bahamas showed up at the home bearing gifts.

Through PwC Bahamas’ corporate service donations programme, every Christmas the accounting firm chooses a community serving organization as the recipient of in-kind donations.

This year the team chose the children’s home, which has been a haven for orphaned and neglected children. This year staff members purchased gifts to donate to the children’s home.

Myra Lundy-Mortimer, Partner at PwC Bahamas said “Our Firm has held a tradition of partnering with local organizations that strives to make a difference in our communities.

This year the toys and gifts drives were a hands-on initiative led by several senior associates at PwC Bahamas and supported by the rest of the Firm.

By focusing our efforts on charities and organizations like the Children’s Emergency Hostel we hope to continue to build relationships that are impactful and that speaks to our organizational core values in our service.”

In addition to the children’s gifts, on December 2nd, PwC Bahamas helped to bring in the festivities of the season at the Home by surprising the children and administrators with the donation of a fully customized Christmas tree and wreath.

Through its sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Old Fort Bay, Christmas Tree Auction, instead of housing the tree in its new office, the Firm decided to donate the tree to the Children’s Home.

Marita Ferguson, administrator of the Children’s Emergency Hostel said, “We weren’t able to put up Christmas decorations this year but thanks to PwC’s generous donations, you can feel the Christmas spirit. It looks and feels like Christmas.

Walking up to the building and seeing the beautifully decorated wreath hanging on the door makes the home feel like a traditional Bahamian home.

The matching Christmas tree in the lobby is now stacked with gifts with the children’s names on them and you can see the excitement on their faces.”

“Thanks to the team at PwC Bahamas, on Christmas morning all of the kids will have a few more gifts in their bags to open this year to make their Christmas a little more jolly and bright” Ferguson added.
