Third Annual A's For Excellence Campaign

Tue, May 11th 2010, 12:00 AM

Thousands of outstanding primary and high school students who have earned at least an ‘A’ grade or more on their final report card, will have the opportunity to win a brand new laptop computer by participating in Custom Computers’ Third Annual “A’s for Excellence” Campaign, which officially kicks off this month. The competition is open to all government and private school students in New Providence and the Family Islands who could take home one of two laptop prizes.

Over the years, Custom Computers “A’s for Excellence” Campaign has received wide spread support from The Ministry of Education, teachers, parents and students.

Pia Farmer, Co-owner and Director of Marketing at Custom Computers commented, “We are happy to celebrate the success stories of our youth instead of dwelling on the negatives.  There are many talented young people who work very hard, whose parents work very hard for their success. So we celebrate them and their parents who are very important, as well as the teachers.”

This year, for the first time ever the company, which is a leading supplier of technology products and services, will also present the school with the most student entries with an iMac computer system.

Mrs. Farmer said the Custom Computers Know How Team is very excited and hopes to build upon its past successes. She is looking forward to an increase in the number of entries this year.   An estimated 400 students entered during the first year of the competition. The number doubled during the second year. This year organizers are expecting thousands of students to participate.

Last year Custom Computers along with former Education Minister, Carl Bethel recognized Kemanah Cooper, a fifth grade student at Faith Temple who won a state of the art HP Compaq Presario Desktop system and Felisha Bess, an eleventh grader at Kingsway Academy who received a 24-inch iMac Computer System.   Jermaine Tucker of C.C. Sweeting Secondary School, the winner of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Most Outstanding Male Secondary School Student of the Year Competition, also received a laptop courtesy of Custom Computers.

In addition to the “A’s for Excellence” computer prizes, Custom Computers will reward students who excel in their overall performance throughout the year with a laptop.

“This year we have committed to give away several additional computers to students who strive for excellence,” announced Mrs. Farmer.  “We’ve singled out the Most Outstanding Overall Primary School Student via the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation, and the students with the best BJC and BGCSE results as determined by the Ministry of Education who will each receive a laptop.  Once again we supported the Phi Alpha Fraternity by awarding a laptop to the Most Outstanding Male Student, Salathiel Wells from N.G.M. Major High School in Long Island, at a ceremony held last month.”

HOW STUDENTS CAN PARTICIPATE

Absolutely no purchase is necessary to win.  Students in New Providence may take their report card to any of the Custom Computers Know How Store locations on East Bay Street or Cable Beach to complete the entry form. Students must be accompanied by a parent and may enter once for every ‘A’ grade.  The more ‘A’s’, the better the chances of winning!

Students in the Family Islands may enter online at www.AforExcellence.com, or fax their entries together with a copy of their report card to 242-396-1109, or mail an entry with a copy of their report card to P.O. Box N-3243, Nassau.

The drawing will take place on Saturday, August 14th at Custom Computers. The actual presentation of the prizes to the winners will take place in September during a special awards function.
