Every year during the month of October, breast cancer awareness is brought to the forefront in The Bahamas and internationally. Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in woman throughout The Commonwealth of The Bahamas. One in every 10 Bahamian women is estimated to be diagnosed with this detrimental disease.

For the contestants of The Miss Fox Hill Pageant, cancer has hit close to home in the form of "The Mother" of this pageant, Miss Remilda Rolle. Miss Rolle, a 52 year old mother of three daughters is a CANCER SURVIVOR having recently completed her last round of chemotherapy two weeks past.

While in an interview with Miss Rolle, her strength, courage and determination was clearly prevalent.

In October of last year, Miss Rolle having never had a mammogram before, attended her doctor after finding a lump on her breast. While there, she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. When asked how she felt as the doctor, produced her diagnosis she expressed, "I felt devastated, disappointed, and shocked."

Remilda's illness came on the heels of having to take care of her beloved and departed brother, 55 year old Keith Rolle, a former Special Olympic Olympian who suffered from Alzheimers and Down Sydrome. In the midst her personal storm, Miss Rolle, took care of and laid her brother to rest.

As a mother, Remilda fought her battle with Cancer for her girls and she was intent on living for them.

Remilda attributed her "faith in God, as faith without works is dead," as a driving force to endure and feed her mind positive thoughts on a lack of need to "worry, if you pray and trust in God."

When asked what thoughts she'd like to share with other women and men, dealing with Breast Cancer, she said, "TRUST IN GOD!" She cheerfully and proud concluded by saying, she "left the residue of the cancer at the hospital. I did not take any with me."

The Miss Fox Hill Enrichment Pageant was pleased to have Miss Rolle spend the day with them on the grounds of the Sandilands Rehabilitation Center, on last week.

The Pageant will be held on November 19, 2017 at The Dundan Center of the Performing Arts, on Mackey Street, at 7PM.
