Last Saturday a sea of Pink flooded the Tanio Beach park, as over three hundred Cancer warriors came out to support the cause.

Joining the 6th Annual Fast Track Relay for Cancer Road race, in Freeport, the GB BTC team was proud to don their pink shirts and participate in the race to beat this dreaded disease.

“Sadly, we can say we all know someone who has been touched by Cancer,” noted Northern VP Eldri Ferguson-Mackey.

“Many of our own staff, friends and family have had their battles with this illness. Today, we wear pink to remind friends to test early, eat healthy, exercise and join the efforts to support cancer research.”

As a corporate sponsor, BTC, supported the annual Fast Track event, assisted with branding, and had staff participate in the race itself.

Winners of the mixed team relay were; Melvin Rolle, Miriam Byfield, Renyan Hudson and Hilvana Cash, all members of team BTC staff who beat out scores of participants to take the top spot.

“We are very thankful to corporate Bahamas, especially BTC for their continued support of this event,” said Rayvanno Ferguson of Fast Track Management. “This year we had more than one hundred, and the funds raised will go toward supporting The Grand Bahama Cancer Association, The Bahamas Cancer Association as well as other cancer charities.”

Not to be outdone, BTC Abaco, joined the 6th Annual Monica Adderley Fun Run Walk to support the cause, held in Marsh Harbour on Saturday. Monica, the mother of local BTC Abaco Technical Manager, Thomas Adderley, is an eleven-year Cancer Survivor and proud advocate for the Think Pink campaign.

“We were pleased to join this event, and support Mrs. Adderley who is a beacon of strength in our community,” said Carmen Williams, Customer Experience Manager at BTC Abaco. “It was a great crowd of women and men, approximately one hundred and fifty people attended, and our own Tracey Fox came second in the Fun Run.”

With The Bahamas having one of the highest rates of breast cancer, BTC is supporting several cancer initiatives across the archipelago. Staff are wearing Pink on Fridays to remind customers about early testing and detection, and on Grand Bahama the company will support the “Burn the Bra” campaign and as well as the ‘Laced-Up’ event on October 20th, to support childhood cancer.
