Weather Warning Issued 5pm July 15th 2017

The Bahamas department of meteorology has extended a severe thunderstorm warning from 5:00 pm edt until 7:00 pm Saturday 15th July 2017.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the berry islands, north eleuthera, andros, exuma, acklins, crooked islands, cat island and its adjacent waters.

At 5:00 pm observation, radar and satellite imagery showed lines and clusters of showers and thunderstorms moving across the above-mentioned islands and rapidly towards the northwest. 

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, flooding, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents in the watch area should be prepared to take quick action should conditions worsen.

Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors. Residents should take precautions to protect property from possible flooding.
