Beach Cleanup Volunteers Get a Treat from BTC

Ragged Island Native Amanda Curling spearheads an annual initiative for her hometown every year.

This initiative is the Ragged Island Cultural & Heritage Association (Back to da Rock) program. Its main goal is to encourage Ragged Islanders to come back and lend a helping hand to their old stomping grounds.

The initiative began in 2014, their first time back home for a long time. Curling and her team decided to clean the beach they frequented as children.

Curling said, “We hosted a picnic for all who attended. We received donations for food and drinks, and had a grand time after all of that hard work!

We have a few descendants coming from Freeport that will be cooking two hot meals for the volunteers from donations by descendants of Ragged Island.

It's my civic and Christian responsibility to give back to my community because it’s the place that nurtured me as a child. Therefore, it's only right that I offer assistance.”

BTC also pitched in to reward the volunteers with gift packs for them to enjoy, as the company tries to promote a spirit of community throughout the entire nation.

BTC’s CEO Leon Williams said, “We were happy to provide gift packs for the volunteers participating in this initiative. Events like these continue to restore our humanity.”

The initiative will run from July 8-14. Curling encourages all Ragged Islanders to make a special effort to give back to the place from whence they came.
