Aquamarine with beautiful undulating colorful fish now covers one of the exterior walls of the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas.

In honor of World Ocean’s day, the Sandals Foundation and Sandals Royal Bahamian commissioned two of the country’s most talented artists, Dede Brown and Dylan Rapillard, to paint the ocean themed mural.

Assisted by Shardae Pratt, Sandals team member and daughter of the late great Bahamian artist Chan Pratt, the eighty foot long mural is a bright and eye catching addition to the historical structures on West Hill Street.

Lazar Delorenzo Charlton, public relations manager at Sandals Royal Bahamian comments, “I was very excited to connect our resort and the Sandals Foundation with the artistic community here in Nassau.

West Hill Street is not only a high traffic area for locals and tourists alike, but the buildings in the area have a rich history and the artists did an amazing job enhancing their beauty while promoting a great cause.”

Amanda Coulson, director of the National Art Gallery added, “This mural not only speaks to the great connection that the art community now has with Sandals and the Sandals Foundation, but we’re also happy that we were able to work together to connect with the residents of West Hill and the surrounding community by launching this initiative. We really hope the trend continues with other companies for community outreach through all types of art and we at the NAGB are always happy to assist.”

Jonathan Hernould, environmental officer at the Sandals Foundation also shared, “Besides education and the community, protecting the environment is one of our primary focuses at the Foundation and facilitating the painting of this mural in a country known for its beautiful waters for World Ocean’s Day was a fun project that we hope to repeat again in the future.”
