On Saturday June 17, fathers teamed up with their children to face off in the Daddy & Me Grill Off at Solomon’s Super Center on Old Trail Road. The four-hour event quickly heated up with contestants preparing four categories of meat. Judges were placed in a hidden area to narrow down the top winners based on flavor, presentation and tenderness/texture of the finished product.

Solomon’s Brand Manager Monalisa Sweeting planned the event to honor fathers in the community for the important role they play in the lives of their children. “We wanted to host a fun event where our fathers could set up their own grills and showoff their cooking skills all while spending time with their kids. The Daddy & Me grill off is our way of recognizing the amazing dads who shop at our store and to show appreciation to the fathers who are a part of our team here at AML Foods Ltd.”

Participants entered the competition using their own grills and were given all other items to prepare for the contest. Solomon’s shoppers also had a chance to sample tasty items coming off of the grills and were treated to vendor giveaways. Customers also shopped the store using Big SAVINGS For the Big Guy flyer with specials savings for dad.

In the end, Carlin Cooper with the help of his son, Canaan Cooper took home the top prize package- the ultimate Man Cave giveaway including a flat screen TV, a surround sound system, a mini refrigerator, a Cable Bahamas sports packages, gas vouchers, two IPhone 6s, two round trip airline tickets, cases of beer and other grocery items. The winner thanked the team at Solomon’s for making his Father’s Day extra special. Jeff Moncur grilled with his son and won second place followed by Sylester Turnquest, who worked on the grill with his daughter for a third place finish.

Solomon’s Super Center thanked event partners Coca Cola, Aliv, Milo Butler “Royal Oak”, McCormick, Hunt’s, Rubis, Bahamian Brewery, Western Air, Cable Bahamas, BWA, Cost Right, Thompson Trading, Purity Bakery, Nassau Paper Company and Nassau Wholesale Agency. This Saturday, June 24, fathers in Grand Bahama will have their chance to compete for bragging rights on the grill.
