Young Bahamian Artist Dreams in 3D in Upcoming Art Show

Bahamian artist Edwina Maynard has crossed the seas to her homeland for a one-night only mixed 3D, acrylic and oil art show this Wednesday, set to unlock the passions and dreams within.

Starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday June 21st, fourteen 3D rendered images and eleven acrylic and oil canvas and wood panels will be on display at Doongalik Studios.

They are art pieces that the Art Institute of Charlotte senior is hoping will provide insight into the views of Bahamians living abroad with a love of country in their hearts.

“With every piece I create I always incorporate some aspect of our Bahamian culture in it,” said Maynard.

“By adding in simple details each piece is unique and sets it apart from everyone else’s work.

I think that it is more difficult for Bahamians who are out of country to contribute to the growth and development of our nation while qualifying and advancing ourselves abroad.

“I want to display my talents and show the Bahamian community that there is more to art than painting, sculptures, mosaics etc. and hopefully inspire others to discover and define their own gift and spark the passion needed to realize the dreams within.”

Maynard believes that the world, its creation, its past, its present and its future is a work of art that evolves every second of everyday.

Wednesday’s is a compilation of many hours of work and effort using Autodesk Maya and Adobe Photoshop that captures this 3D growth from the traditional norms.

“I want people to leave feeling like they’ve been exposed to the inner me, my style and to ultimately understand the passion,” said Maynard.

“Finally, I would want guests to take away that 3D is an art medium, although not a traditional Bahamian art vehicle, and I want them to be just as curious about how many other untapped art mediums are available to be explored.”

The former St. Anne’s High School graduate is now hoping that her works will be a part of her individual contribution to this evolution in hopes to inspire one to embrace all possibilities and opportunities.

“I like to see the positive things that people are doing,” Maynard added. “As a result, it reassures me that I am able to achieve anything that I put my mind to.”
