The bahamas department of meteorology has issued a severe weather warning and watch from 9:15pm until 11:15pm wednesday 7th june 2017.

A severe weather warning is in effect for bimini, grand bahama, abaco, the berry islands, andros and their adjacent waters and cays; while a watch is in effect for new providence.

At 9:15 pm observation, radar and satellite imagery showed clusters of heavy showers and thunderstorms associated with tropical moisture emanating from a broad low pressure system in the gulf of mexico   moving across bimini, grand bahama, abaco, the berry islands, andros and towards new providence.

Some of these showers and thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning areas should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.

Residents in the watch area should be prepared to take quick action in the event conditions worsen.
