The Bahamas department of meteorology has issued a severe weather warning from 11:00pm tuesday 6th june 2017 until 1:00am wednesday 7th june 2017.
A severe weather warning is in effect for grand bahama islands and the adjacent waters and cays.
At 10:50 pm observation, radar and satellite imagery showed clusters of heavy showers and thunderstorms associated with a surface low pressure system in the gulf combined with tropical moisture streaming from the gulf of mexico across the northwest bahamas, moving east and northeastwards.
Some of these showers and thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, localized flooding, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.
boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning areas should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
