"BTC says-Powere To The People" $20K Parade Sponsorship & New Mobile Plan for Civil Servants

This week has been proclaimed as “Labour Week” in the country. The National Congress of Trade Unions Bahamas (NCTUB) and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas Trade Unions Congress (CBTUC) will join forces for this year’s annual Labour Day March, set for Friday June 2nd. BTC today announced its $20,000 sponsorship of the annual Sir Randol Fawkes Labour Day Parade.

BCPOU and NCTUB President, Bernard Evans said, “We are grateful that BTC has agreed to partner with us. We will officially announce BTC as our Employer of the Year at our opening ceremony tomorrow. Years of support lands BTC with this special accolade. The announcement sets the company apart because they are the only unionized company of its kind in the country.”

The BCPOU and the BCMPU have been a part of the BTC family since their inception. Mr. Williams said, “BTC has been a part of the labour movement from the beginning. We are proud of the commitment all labour unions and their efforts to advocate for fair rights for all employees. Though provocative at times, BTC still maintains good relationships with our union partners. Unions still play a very vital role in our society. They have a strong voice, and we encourage them to use it responsibly to advance the cause of workers. To be in an environment where you do not have the right to be represented by a Labour Union in this day and age is in my opinion, undemocratic.”

In light of this special partnership for Labour Day, BTC is introducing a unique plan for civil servants. CEO Williams states, “When you’re a part of the BTC family, the possibilities are limitless. Last month, we promised that we would introduce this plan. Today, we are making that promise a reality.”

The BTC Civil Servant plan offers:

Free calls between members
A free mobile phone with sign up
Free text messages between team members
One month free rental service
50% off of your Security Deposit

This offer is available at all BTC locations throughout the country. BTC will also begin its “Civil Servant Pop-Up Store” experience, where it will bring the offer directly to various offices, making it easier and more accessible to sign up.

“As the largest employer in this country still remains the civil service, we felt it imperative to introduce a special mobile option. By adding features like free calls to members, we are giving even more value to our customers.”

The Sir Randol Fawkes Labour Day Parade will begin from Windsor Park on Friday morning at 8:00am. The parade will travel north on East Street to Bay Street West on Bay Street to Navy Lion Road turning onto West Bay Street, West on West Bay Street and ending at the carnival site on Arawak Cay.

BTC’s relationship with labour unions has been strong for decades. In 1973, BTC’s team members broke away from the Bahamas Public Services Union and formed the Bahamas Communications Public Officers Union (BCPOU). In subsequent years, the management union, the BCPMU was formed.
