With just 30 days to go before the start of one of the biggest sporting events to ever be held in The Bahamas, excitement is building in the lead up to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017. The global event is set to kick off on April 27, and one of the 16 teams is already in Nassau preparing for the tournament.
Tahiti has made the long journey to The Bahamas to get accustomed to the sand, and the seventh ranked team in the world recently faced Team Bahamas in a friendly practice match.
The official winner's trophy has begun making the rounds throughout the islands of The Bahamas, the official song 'Pure Good Vibes' is dominating the airwaves, and in the next few days, the entire city of Nassau will be dressed in the official look of the tournament. According to the tournament's Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman Jeffrey Beckles, there is a lot more excitement to come for beach soccer fans.
"We will be introducing the world cup national team to The Bahamas shortly at an exciting event that will be open to the public. We want everyone to come out and be a part of that to support Team Bahamas and get a taste of what the 'Fan Zone' will be like during the tournament. We will be revealing more details in the coming days," Beckles said.
President of the Bahamas Football Association (BFA) Anton Sealey is encouraging all Bahamians to get in the spirit of the tournament, which will attract thousands of visitors to the country.
"Let's all get ready to welcome the world to our beautiful country for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017 and show them that we know how to put on a world-class event. We're just 30 days away from kick-off, and we're asking you to wear your Bahamian colors and your warmest smiles as all eyes will be on us during the exciting event. It's not too early to start preparing," said Sealey.
Tickets to the event are free of charge. Fans are asked to collect their free tickets at the Malcolm Park Beach Soccer Stadium's entrance gate on game days, and are asked to follow the latest updates of the tournament and track Team Bahamas' progress on social media at Facebook.com/beachsoccer2017.
The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017 is the first FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) global sporting event ever to be held in the Caribbean.
