The Bahamas Golf Federation's (BGF) first qualifier to select The Bahamas' team for the upcoming Caribbean Golf Classic was held this past Sunday, at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island.
This year, the defending champions in three categories were challenged for their spots in a "Best Ball" format. The format records the best score of the team on each hole as the team score.
In the Mid-Amateur Division, the duo of cousins John and Peter McIntosh, who represented The Bahamas last year, found themselves paired against the team of the long-hitting Lynford Miller and lefty Anthony Hinsey. In the end, the McIntosh team could only muster a score of 4-over-par, while the young pair of Hinsey and Miller shot a nifty even par round. The team of Kelsey Rolle and Simon Fielder was sandwiched
between the two groups with a 2-over-par round.
In the Seniors Division, last year's defending champions Paul Bowe and Roderick Pinder did not pair up, leaving the field wide open. The team of George Swann and Horace Miller trounced the other teams with a respectable even par score. Second place finishers Steve Wallace and Kevin March (4-over-par), were followed by Kirk Bowe and Broderick Pinder (7-over-par) and Dr. Barry Russell and Neil O'Brien (8-over-par).
The highlight of the day was the play in the Super Seniors Division where the dynamic duo of Ossie Moore and Raymond Gibson shot a blistering 5-under-par, out-distancing last year's champions Vernon Wells and Bobby Rose, who could only muster a 1-under-par round.
Scores were unavailable for the ladies divisions. Dieudonnee Carroll competed in the Ladies 30-plus Division and Agatha Delancy and Ingrid Block competed in the Ladies 50-plus Division.
The final qualifier will be held in Freeport, Grand Bahama, on March 12 at the Reef Golf Course.
