Valentine’s Day came early for one busy Nassau couple who won the opportunity for a romantic hotel stay on Great Harbour Cay thanks to a Facebook competition hosted by the owners of the award-winning Carriearl Boutique Hotel.

Winners Carl and Sonia Kemp won the “Count the Corks” Facebook competition by guessing the correct number of corks in a champagne bucket. Their overnight stay at the romantic Carriearl boutique hotel included celebratory Valentine’s brunch and dinner, and a relaxing weekend to explore and discover the islands’ hidden treasures.

“I was so excited when we won! I just could not contain myself and I am so happy,” said Sonia Kemp.

The Kemp’s are celebrating 18 years of marital bliss this year and as they thanked the hotel owners for the opportunity to relax and rekindle their love, they said the unexpected trip was much needed.

“My wife called me while I was at work and told me we had just won a trip to The Berry Islands and that we had to leave the next morning, I was shocked but I told her if we won the trip then we will have to take it.

“This place is so beautiful, it’s like a hidden paradise right here in The Bahamas and it’s my first time in The Berry Islands – this was something that we really needed in our busy lives,” said Carl Kemp.

The boutique hotel has two recent TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence for outstanding customer satisfaction reviews, stunning location, décor and dining.

Owners Marty Dronsfield and Angela Jackson said they decided to create the local Facebook competition after realizing that not many Bahamians were aware of the beauty in the family islands, and since The Berry Islands has been dubbed ‘the place to fall in love’ – there was no better time to share the island’s treasures than Valentine’s Day.

“Every time Marty and I would travel to Nassau we would realize that not many people know about The Berry Islands or even know where it is!

“We made it a point to find a way to promote the island and bring awareness to this little piece of paradise,” said Angela Jackson.

“The Berry Islands is the perfect place to just come and chill out and fall in love, so we are happy that we were able to make at least one couple happy this Valentine’s!” said Marty Dronsfield.

Senior Executive in the Ministry of Tourism for The Berry Islands, Kevin Wallace, says he’s hoping this initiative would inspire more Bahamians to explore and enjoy the Family Islands and Cays experience.
