CIBC FirstCaribbean Organizes Book Drive for Youth Centre and Library

CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank has organized a book drive in the Turks and Caicos Islands in an effort to encourage literacy.

Larry Lawrence, Country Manager for CIBC FirstCaribbean Turks & Caicos noted that the bank understands that reading is the key that unlocks the doors to education, imagination and success.

“Each time a child opens a book, he or she creates a new opportunity to learn and grow and that is priceless. It’s important for us to ensure that, as members of this community, we are helping to encourage and stimulate young people,” Lawrence said.

CIBC FirstCaribbean seeks to collect 1,000 assorted books for the Edward C. Gartland Youth Centre, a non-profit organization that offers children exposure to a variety of educational and self-development activities, and the Turks and Caicos Library Services.

Director of the Edward C. Gartland Youth Centre, Roxann Wake-Forbes said the book drive would expand the center’s book selection and help the children to appreciate the fundamental importance of reading.

“When we got the call from CIBC FirstCaribbean about the book drive, we jumped at the opportunity because we know that it will allow our children to have access to more learning opportunities that will enhance their development and help them become smarter, more confident and all-around better people.”

The bank is asking the public to donate new or gently used books to any CIBC FirstCaribbean branch in Grand Turk or Providenciales between February 1st and March 31st.
