The Killarney Voice-Reports of Illegal Dumping

Tue, Jan 24th 2017, 05:09 PM

Reports of ILLEGAL DUMPING continue to pour into the Killarney Constituency Office. This is a vexing and frustrating issue that residents have complained about for years.

One resident in the area said, "I am emailing regarding the illegal dumping that happens in our neighbourhood of Southwestridge on a daily basis. This problem is clearly out of control.

Neighbourhood clean ups have been implemented, but the minute the clean up is finished, our nasty citizens speed through, tossing rubbish out of their cars. It is overwhelming. We need help."

Killarney's Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis, has once again sought the assistance of Environmental Health Services and is requesting that the perpetrators cease and desist of the illegal dumping in all areas of the constituency and in other parts of the island.

The hazards of open dumping can include the release of toxics and heavy metals to the air and water; and also the increased presence of rodents and insects; and physical hazards such as poisonous gases, and/or piercing objects.

Dr. Minnis is asking the cooperation of the community and the assistance of Environmental Health services in this regard.

Persons caught dumping will be reported to the authorites, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CALL OR EMAIL ALL ISSUES OR CONCERNS TO DR. MINNIS AT Killarney Constituency Office, West Bay Street Nassau Bahamas 1 (242) 327-7006 killarneymp@gmail.com or inbox us on facebook.
