$25K High Roller Starts Up, Main Event Plays Down in The Bahamas

Fri, Jan 13th 2017, 01:20 PM

The inaugural PokerStars Championship Bahamas is building toward its peak. Thursday's schedule features 15 different events running inside the Imperial Ballroom at the Atlantis Resort, making it the series' busiest day yet.

The $5,000 Main Event is down to 32 players from the starting field of 768, with Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier sitting in second place and seeking his fourth PokerStars title. Live coverage of Day 4 is available on the PokerStars Blog, and the PokerStars TV broadcast is streaming in a variety of languages across multiple media channels.

Most of the other events in the ballroom carry relatively modest buy-ins today, but one of them does not. The $25,750 High Roller began at 11:00 this morning, the last of the $25k no-limit hold'em events on the nine-day schedule.

As of the time of writing, 61 players have already joined, and three of them have exercised their single re-entry option. That number will continue to swell this afternoon, with late registration and re-enty available all day long.

The early turnout includes both halves of the dynamic duo from Team PokerStars Pro Brazil, Felipe Ramos and Andre Akkari. The $100,000 Super High Roller Champion, Jason Koon, is also in the field, as are a number of other high-rolling regulars like Steve O'Dwyer, Dan Colman, Charlie Carrel, Isaac Haxton, and Justin Bonomo.

This event is scheduled for three days, and it features 50,000-chip starting stacks and 60-minute levels for the duration. Day 1 will conclude at the end of Level 10, and registration remains open until the Day 2 restart Friday at noon. Live coverage is available on the PokerNews.
