Beach volleyball’s profile within the Commonwealth Games Federation continues to grow after it was added to the programme for the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. 

It will be the first time that it has appeared at the competition and will come a year before beach volleyball makes its Games debut at the Gold coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

FIVB President Dr Ary Graça said, “some of the Commonwealth’s finest beachside settings will be the sporting stage for Beach Volleyball when our exciting and engaging sport is presented for the first time ever at the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, and then on the Commonwealth Games programme in Gold Coast, Australia a year later in 2018.

“It’s such an exciting time globally for this fast-paced and fast-growing sport and I’ve every confidence that fans will welcome its addition to the programme.”

The Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games will be the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted in The Bahamas, and the largest-ever edition of the Youth Games, with up to 1300 athletes aged 14-18 set to compete between July 19-23.

It will be the sixth Commonwealth Youth Games with previous Games held in Samoa (2015), Isle of Man (2011), Pune India (2008), Bendigo, Australia (2004) and Edinburgh in Scotland (2000).
