The Bahamas Air Accident Investigation Department advises the public that on December 19th 2016, at approximately 3:20 pm Local Time, an incident occurred involving a single engine aircraft registration N8700Q.

The Piper Cherokee aircraft crashed into waters shortly after takeoff from North Eleuthera Airport en-route to Abaco.

The pilot was the sole occupant of the plane and was successfully recovered from the waters near Pigeon Cay by nearby boaters.

The Department is currently investigating this incident. Further information will be forth coming when it is available.
