On Saturday, November 19th, 2016, Mackey Media, in conjunction with Port Lucaya Marketplace, The Uppercut Band & Friends, hosted a press conference to announce the upcoming Still Standing After the Storm food drive and relief concert, set for Friday, November 25th, 2016 at the Port Lucaya Marketplace in Freeport.

The event is poised to bring relief to the downtrodden, needy and displaced residents of Grand Bahama Island, through banding together a cross section of partners from various sectors of the community.

David Mackey, President of Mackey Media and event organizer, said that, “The event is a coming together of musicians, dancers, artists and orators to raise awareness of the hungry, through the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.”

“This is an opportunity for everyone to join in with the event and bring canned goods and bagged goods to help feed the hungry among us.”

Joseph Darville, event participant, expressed excitement in being a part of the initiative and said, “During this particular event I will be talking about climate change and how Matthew, and last year Joaquin, focuses on that particular dynamic.”

James T. Rolle, General Manager at Dolly Madison and event sponsor said that, “Dolly Madison is pleased to join up with Mackey Media and it’s effort to work along with the Salvation Army and the Red Cross in reaching out to the Grand Bahama Community.”

“Dolly Madison is familiar with this type of gesture, because right after Hurricane Matthew, even though we had suffered quite a bit of damage, we were able to make available to the general community, our store hours.”

Rolle added, “When other stores were closed, Dolly Madison was open right after the storm.”

Rolle used the store’s availability to its customers as an illustration of how the Bahamian community can reach out to persons who need help.

Fenrick, Entertainment Host at Port Lucaya Marketplace said that, “We were already looking to do something, and what better way than to merge and marry the idea that Dave came with.”

He said that “Port Lucaya is all about helping and we are in the process of being the change that we want to see in Grand Bahama anyhow, so lets do this!”

The event will showcase a wide cross section of music that appeals to persons from various walks of life including, classical, contemporary, rhythm and blues, gospel and much more.
