Minister Darville Pinned With Poppy

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, along with World War II Veteran Henry Kellman, and senior staff members of the Ministry, were pinned with a poppy on Wednesday, November 9, in recognition of Remembrance Day on Sunday, November 13. The 54th annual Remembrance Day Service will be held at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 4:00 p.m. The annual march will begin at 2:00 p.m. from the Urban Renewal Centre on Weddell Avenue. With Remembrance Day on Sunday, November 13, Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, was on Wednesday, November 9, pinned with a poppy by Remembrance Committee member, Reggie Dean.

During a courtesy call at the Ministry for Grand Bahama, World War II Veteran Henry Kellman, was also pinned.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Harold Nicolson, British delegate to the 1919 Paris Peace Conference stated, 'How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes.' It is essential that we recognize those who have fought or died in the line of duty, to ensure that our lives are better."

The activities for the Remembrance Day include the 18th Annual Remembrance Day Parade, starting at the Urban Renewal Centre on Weddell Avenue, the uniformed youth organizations will march to Mary Star of the Sea for the 54th annual Memorial Service which begins at 4:00 p.m.

"I invite all residents of Grand Bahama to come out and support the events this Sunday, as we move forward and onward as a fortified people to pay tribute to those who have gone before and thank our Heavenly Father for a bright and prosperous future."

Minister Darville also spoke on other events  saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, I also wish at this time to speak to what I deem are events that have served to uplift the people of Grand Bahama, as we forge ahead in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew."

Listing a number of events held, or being held, to inspire residents, Minister Darville made note of the victory parade and gospel concert held on Sunday, October 30, in the Lewis Yard, Pinder's Point settlements. The same event was held last week in West Grand Bahama.

The Ministry for Grand Bahama, in collaboration with the West Grand Bahama Youth Development Association and West Grand Bahama Local Government District will host a victory parade and a grand gospel concert on Sunday, at 2pm at the former Friendship Shopping Centre in Eight Mile Rock, for residents of West Grand Bahama who were adversely impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

The event is also scheduled for Freeport, and residents will be informed as to the details at a later date.
