Police are investigating an alleged scam involving the sale of fraudulent Bahamasair tickets and now have several individuals in custody, according to a statement released by Bahamasair Holdings Ltd. on Thursday.

"We wish to advise the general public that we have uncovered a fraudulent scheme involving individuals offering unauthorized, deeply discounted tickets on Bahamasair," the statement read. "Upon discovery of this scam, we immediately alerted the appropriate authorities. The police are now involved and have in their custody several individuals related to this scheme."

Bahamasair advised that any purchase of tickets for travel on Bahamasair outside of approved sales channels (Palmdale ticket office, Oakes Field ticket office, Freeport ticket office, all airport counters, and authorized travel agencies) will be denied for travel.

"Additionally, any purchase of tickets for individuals other than the cardholder will require proper identification and proof of authorization of usage in order to be processed for travel," the statement read. "Please be assured that the security of our customers is our number one priority and we are committed to doing everything in our power to keeping your purchases safe."
