THE 27-year-old son of National Congress of Trade Unions president John Pinder was shot multiple times and killed late on Monday night while playing video games in his Hillside Park home.

Police have not officially identified the victim but The Tribune understands he is John Jamal Pinder Jr.

Officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, Superintendent Clayton Fernander, said Mr. Pinder was playing video games with several male friends off Bernard Road when unknown persons shot through a window of the home.

Mr. Pinder was shot several times and was pronounced dead on the scene. A second man was also shot and rushed to hospital by ambulance, where he remains in stable condition.

This latest murder takes the county's homicide count to 69 for the year, according to The Tribune's records.

Fox Hill MP Fred Mitchell extended condolences to John Pinder on Tuesday morning calling the death a "tragedy".

"I wish to extend condolences to John Pinder, the Head of the National Congress of Trade Unions and the Bahamas Public Service Union, upon the death of his son in such tragic circumstances last evening," Mr. Mitchell said.

"It must be quite difficult to fathom. It is very sad. I wish on behalf of the Fox Hill community, from which he hails, to extend condolences. The community stands with you in this time of bereavement. I spoke personally to Mr. Pinder this morning by phone to pass on my condolences."

Police currently have no one in custody in connection with the homicide.
