The final round of the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships was held yesterday at the One&Only Ocean Club Golf Course.

The region's premier amateur golf tournament wrapped up yesterday at the One&Only Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island.

Despite trailing Puerto Rico throughout the majority of the first three days of competition at the 60th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC), the Dominican Republic (DR) was able to sneak in on the last round and steal the coveted Hoerman men's division cup by one stroke. They finished the tournament with 1,132 total strokes.

Puerto Rico finished with 1,133 strokes; Trinidad and Tobago was third with 1,162 strokes, followed by Jamaica in fourth with 1183 strokes and the Cayman Islands rounded out the top five with 1,209 strokes.

Barbados leapfrogged The Bahamas for sixth position after sitting in seventh through the first three days of play. Barbados finished with 1,210 total strokes while The Bahamas finished with 1,212. The U.S. Virgin Islands rounded out the group with 1,259 total strokes.

In the men's division, the top four scores counted toward each day's total.

The men's team that represented The Bahamas at the tournament included Devaughn Robinson, Steven Kemp, Peter McIntosh, Richard Gibson, Horace Miller and George Swann.

In women's action, the Puerto Rican team took the George Teale Cup in 573 total strokes. USVI finished second with 612 total strokes, followed by the DR with 614. Jamaica ended the week in fourth with 634 strokes and Trinidad and Tobago was fifth with 641 strokes.

The Bahamas rounded out the women's division with 655 strokes. The Bajan women's team withdrew from the competition on opening day due to injury.

The top two scores counted toward the day's totals in the women's division.

The women's team was made up of Taneka Sandiford, Inecia Rolle, Sheridan Robinson and Marlique Hield.

Puerto Rico also picked up the Arthur Ziadie Cup, given to the tournament's overall winner, with 64 points.

The regional golf classic was sponsored this year by Bahamas Waste Ltd., Coca-Cola, Family Guardian, FirstCaribbean Bank International and J.S. Johnson Insurance Co. Ltd.
