We all need someone to lean on

There's a particular commercial which is aired on T.V. a lot these days, and the background music playing during the commercial is the very popular song of some years ago "Lean on Me" which I remember playing a lot when I was a professional musician. The first line of that song is in fact the title of this particular article -- we all need someone to lean on. Yes indeed we do.

So D. Paul, what exactly does it mean and what is the message that you wish to convey to us here today, you may query? Well at times, no matter how positive and upbeat in nature we may be, we go through some -- what we so often refer to as down times. That's right, it could be that we're in business for ourselves and because of a variety of factors, things are not going too well which has considerably reduced our revenue, which means that we're having some difficult times financially.
It could be that our domestic situation has been traveling along a rather rocky road of late, as we're not getting along with our spouse or significant other, thus there's tension in the household that is most unpleasant.

Perhaps you've just gotten results of the tests you took at the doctor's office, and they've indicated that you've got a serious medical problem that needs immediate treatment. At times like these, there's no doubt about it, we all need someone to lean on as the song says we all need someone close to us in whom we can confide, someone with a sympathetic ear, who will just listen to us, and then give us some words of encouragement and moral support.

Now the person whom you need to have in your life to lean on in times of trouble needs to be an empathic, a sensitive person who is capable of just listening without condemning you in any way, and then offering you some uplifting, positive words of encouragement so that they uplift your spirit and thus assist you in your hour of need.
