Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama, Hon. Neko Grant and members of Nek’s Team surprised over 300 students attending Bartlett Hill Primary School (BHPS) on Friday with brand-new backpacks, a welcomed start for the 2016/2017 academic school year. The gifts were, undoubtedly well received by all recipients’ as well as the principal of the school, Gia Walker, based on the responses.

Grant, who has made similar presentations, along with musical instruments to various schools throughout the island for more than 20 years expressed what it meant to be able to provide the students with such necessities, prior to the start of the academic year.

“It is a wonderful feeling. Last year I gave them the backpacks after school opened, but I appreciate that the economy being what it is, there is need for the parents to maximize the amount of money they have to spend for back to school supplies. With the presentation of the backpacks this morning, it enables the parents to tick that off of their lists of things they have to buy. I was told that the student body was 307. I brought 310 backpacks to ensure that everyone received one,” informed Grant.

As BHPS is a part of his constituency, he shared his hopes for the students enrolled at the learning institution.

“I certainly hope that they continue to excel academically.”

Since Bartlett Hill became a part of his constituency, Grant said he has renovated the basketball court, and built two new covered bleachers. “They are not only used for watching the basketball games but the kids use them during the lunch break as well.”

BHHPS Principal Gina Walker expressed gratitude to Grant on behalf of the school.
