Man accused of murder plot against witness gets bail

A man who investigators believe conspired to kill a witness in an abetment to murder case was yesterday granted $20,000 bail after the Crown did not object to his release.

Ramon Sweeting, 37, of Coral Harbour, was charged in connection with an alleged plot to bump off O'Neil Marshall on May 13 and remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

Senior Supreme Court Justice Stephen Isaacs set bail at $20,000 for Sweeting on the condition that he reports to the Elizabeth Estates Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays before 6 p.m.

Jomo Campbell appeared for Sweeting.

Marshall was found shot to death in a vehicle in the parking lot of a derelict building that once housed City Meat Market on Market Street.

Police were on mobile patrol when they saw smoke coming from a car. On checking the car, they found Marshall's bullet-riddled body.

Police have not charged anyone with the murder of Marshall, who was a witness in the abetment to murder case of Stephen Stubbs and Giovanni Roberts.

However, they believe that Sweeting, Ian "Irie" Porter, Jamaric Green and Caryn Moss conspired to have him killed.

They are all due to appear in the Magistrates' Court for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment on June 21.
