A customs broker accused of defrauding a client of more than $220,000 was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services yesterday.

Ryan Cartwright, 40, of Hill Crest Drive, Sans Souci, pleaded not guilty to eight counts of fraud by false pretenses at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

Attorney Wellington Orlander represents him.

Prosecutors allege that Cartwright, the owner of Fast Track Services, over billed Karen Silverman for duty on items associated with the construction of her $4.6 million home at Ocean Club Estates.

The theft allegedly occurred from March 3, 2014 to May 2015.

The question of bail did not arise, as the court does not have the jurisdiction to consider bail for the offense.

Cartwright was advised of his right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.

His trial date is set for June 30.
