DPM robbery suspect wants ankle bracelet removed

Although he is scheduled to be tried next month, one of the suspects in the home invasion and armed robbery of Deputy Prime Minister Phillip Brave Davis wants his ankle bracelet removed.

Jeffrey King has been wearing the device since May 2015 when Justice Vera Watkins required that he be tracked as part of his $10,000 bail.

King did not show up for his bail variation hearing before Watkins yesterday, so the matter has been adjourned until April 12.

Prosecutors allege that King, Tyrone Knowles and Marc McCartney robbed Davis; his wife, Ann Marie, and aide Wilberforce Seymour in 2013. The deputy prime minister was robbed of jewelry valued at almost $100,000, a credit card and driver's license. The robbers took $2,953 from Mrs. Davis and $10 from Seymour.

Watkins denied Knowles bail in March due to the strength of the evidence.

Marc McCartney was released on $9,500 bail in December 2014 after the Court of Appeal upheld Watkins' decision to grant bail because of the tenuous nature of the evidence against him.

The trial is set to begin before Watkins on May 2.
