Members of the Urban Renewal Band listen to Dr Eugene Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, at a welcome reception yesterday at the Embassy.

THE Urban Renewal Marching Band will be among the groups participating in the 45th annual St Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Washington, DC, on Sunday.

Members of the band arrived in the US capital on Monday under the guidance of Inspector Theodore Campbell, Band Director and Co-ordinator, and police assistants Sergeant Oscar Dames, Corporals Rudolph Pratt, Demetrius Rolle, Perise Simon, Sharon Davis, WPC Areba Ambrose and PC Anthony Capron as well as several parents.

The group visited the Bahamas Embassy yesterday, where they were welcomed by Dr Eugene Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, and Deputy Chief of Mission Chet Neymour. Ranging in ages from seven to 18, the 80 members of the band introduced themselves and said what instruments they play and the schools they attend.

The St Patrick’s Parade is scheduled to begin at noon and will proceed down Constitution Avenue. Over 100 marching bands, military units, dance schools, floats and a variety of other groups are scheduled to participate. The Urban Renewal Band is scheduled to return to The Bahamas on Tuesday.
