THE most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease (DJD).

It is a chronic degenerative condition of one or more joints that results in decreased mobility and pain.

This type of arthritis, which is extremely common in dogs, increasingly so as they get older, is a progressive breakdown of the cartilage in one or more joints. Cartilage is the smooth, tough material that covers the ends of the bone and cushions the bone against the friction of the moving joints.
