The middle road

When I was in Macau, China, just down the coast from Hong Kong several years ago facilitating a seminar for the telephone company there, I visited a Buddhist Temple built on a hill overlooking the China Sea, and I felt a wonderful feeling of peace as I sat there. In the hotel room beside the bed was of course the usual Bible, but there was also a copy of "The Teachings of Buddha" which I read from cover to cover during the week I was in Macau. I must say I learned a whole lot from "The Teachings of Buddha."

One important message that is repeated again and again in "The Teachings of Buddha" is the vital importance of having balance in one's life. Believe me, this is extremely important. This is referred to in "The Teachings of Buddha" as the middle road, and I believe that that's a very accurate and pictorial way of putting it, for in life so many people appear to be either going way over to one side or the other, instead of staying in the middle.

For example, as it pertains to one's eating habits -- some people consistently eat too much of all the wrong food which causes them to become overweight for their height, which in turn ends up leading to all sorts of serious health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes or heart problems. On the other hand, there are those who eat very little, take on very little nutrition during each 24-hour period in a desperate effort to have the perfect figure. However, in the process they do not consume enough proper nutrition, which also results in all sorts of health problems.

So balance is vital in all areas of one's overall life. Yes indeed, as the "The Teachings of Buddha" states it, in all matters, we need to take the middle road -- not too much or too little, but just right. Properly balanced.

Now my friend it's examination time. It's time for you to examine your life in all of its facets to ascertain if you do in fact have balance in all phases of your overall life. If upon examination you find that some adjustments need to be made in order to bring balance back into your life, please make those adjustments today. Don't put it off so that you can walk the middle road directly to success city.
