A MAN was shot dead and two others are in hospital following two separate shooting incidents in Freeport over the weekend. This latest death pushes the murder count to two on Grand Bahama for the year. It was also the 18th homicide in the country this year, according to The Tribune’s records. Police have not released the victim’s identity and are appealing to residents for their assistance in solving the case. The two shootings occurred within minutes of each other.

According to Inspector Terecita Pinder, the first happened shortly before midnight on Saturday in the Nelson Road area, where a man was robbed of $1,000 cash and shot in his lower body by two masked men. He was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A short time later, police received a report of a second shooting in the Weddell Avenue area.

Inspector Pinder reported that shortly after midnight on Saturday police received a report that two men were shot by a man who was wearing dark clothing. When police arrived at the scene, one man had died as result of multiple gunshot injuries to his body. The other man had been shot in the arm and taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

Inspector Pinder said police are continuing their investigation into the shootings and are appealing to the public for assistance.

Persons with information on these incidents are asked to call Central Detective Unit at 350-3106-12, 911/919 or the nearest police station.
