The Grand Bahama Regional Branch of the Bahamas National Trust will hold its annual general meeting at the Rand Nature Centre in Freeport on March 8 beginning at 6.30pm.

Dr. Jacqueline Miller of the Florida Museum of Natural History will give a public lecture on Bahamian butterflies and moths after the business meeting, and a cocktail reception will follow the public lecture.

Dr. Miller is an adjunct professor at the University of Florida and a noted expert in Lepidoptera - an order of insects that includes 180,000 species of moths and butterflies. As a Curator of Lepidoptera at the Florida Museum of Natural History, Dr. Miller's interests include the evolution, biogeography, life history, ecology and biodiversity of butterflies and moths worldwide, especially in the Caribbean basin.

She is the author of more than 143 papers and seven books, and is currently working on a checklist of all Lepidoptera in the Bahamas, which will provide further clues to the current ecological state of these highly visible insects. Dr. Miller will discuss her research and the significance of current studies which will provide support for conservation management and ecotourism activities.

All BNT members wishing to vote at the annual general meeting are asked to ensure their membership status is in good standing. Nominations for the Regional Branch Board should be sent to the attention of Lakeshia Anderson (anderson@bnt.bs). A cocktail reception will follow the public lecture.
