Take a walk in my shoes

Sometimes all of us can be extremely hard on others who are perhaps going through some difficult times in some area of their life. Perhaps a friend has just lost a job and is thus quite distraught due to the fact, that they are a single parent and thus the breadwinner in the family. It could be that a close relative or dear friend has just made their transition into the next phase of their everlasting life or it could be that a person close to you has just had a rather negative health report from their medical practitioner. Now, at times like these, we all need a shoulder to cry on, so to speak as we discussed in the last article. However, it's absolutely amazing to me how utterly frigid and indeed casual some misinformed people can be as they very coldly say with an extremely stern look on their face, "Get over it."

Now believe me, I fully understand, no matter what happens to us in life which is of a negative, painful nature, we do indeed need to eventually get over it. And the operative word here is "eventually." In the meantime, it's important for us to grieve. Yes it is. Those who appear to have no emotions and who keep telling us to get over it need to figuratively do as instructed to do in the title of today's article and thus take a walk in my shoes, and start to try to feel how I feel at this precise time and then offer me some emotional support.

My friend, an extremely important quality that we all need to develop is empathy. Empathy is the ability to see things through the eyes of others, and to feel their pain, as former president of the United States Bill Clinton was prone to say. Yes indeed, before you start to condemn me, you need to take a walk in my shoes thus allowing you to fully understand where I'm coming from. Don't forget, in all probability you'll need someone to do likewise for you at some point in your life, and as you sow, so shall you reap.
