Dr. Elaine Lundy needs your help....

Dr. Elaine Lundy has given much to the Bahamian community during her practice of medicine. She is now in need of a lung transplant and is asking for donations to fund the same.

Many thanks those of you who have been kind enough to send donations towards her transplant. Please note that donations can be sent via the link at the bottom of this email. However, it is hard to access those funds quickly and Elaine has alot fo personal needs. For those of you who are willing and able to help on a personal level, please feel free to send her  funds through her Scotia bank account. Checking personal --Elaine I Lundy. Freeport branch. #7001043.

As you can see by Elaine's note below, her personal needs are urgent:

"If some persons want to send $$ personally that is good also for me because I can access it immediately. I need $$ for lung transplant which I am being evaluated for but I've not been placed on their list yet. That's millions of $$ and the fund is very good at that. I lost my insurance recently because no income, unable to work and disability pmts were only for one year I'm being evaluated by Ucsf now because Stanford rejected me because of esophageal dysmotility. So #2 is I need $$ for living expenses.

"To get $$ from the fund I have to have supporting documents scanned and sent to them and fill out paperwork sometimes for each thing, like relocation, mileage, rent, doctor visits etc. sometimes I would be at the doctor for a week so lodging proof and papers from the doctors office proving we (Nicole, her now husband and I) were there, parking tickets, meal receipts etc. Very time consuming and labor intensive for me. Thank God I am doing so much better and spend the greater part of my days doing these things. I've been able to do this for the last 8 months. I'm also working on Bahamian disability.

"Nothing solid yet for a steady income. Getting persons to donate a certain amt per month is my best scenario right now but I hope to do better soon. So donations line 20,30,50,100,1000, etc per month is what Im trying for.

"Then as soon as I can do better I would not touch the fund like I didn't for the first 10 months ur was there. And the $$ can be there for transplant which I hope will happen this year. Now it's dry because of circumstances so I greatly appreciate this help."

Dear Friends, Family and Community,

My mother, Elaine I. Lundy is 60 years young and although she has never been a smoker, she is very ill with two rare and life-threatening conditions. Pulmonary Fibrosis and Pulmonary Hypertension respectively, are affecting her heart and both of her lungs. Her only hope for survival is to receive a life-saving double lung transplant.

Elaine attended medical school at the University of California at Irvine, and for close to 30 years has been a Family Physician practicing in both the Bahamas and the United States. Her passion to help others has given her the strength to tirelessly serve her patients, though weary and under oxygenated, day in and day out until she could no longer physically go on. Imagine being a physician on oxygen moving from room to room seeing patients while defying an illness that is hell bent on taking you down.  She now needs your help so that she can continue to do the work she loves.

Elaine is now facing the overwhelming cost of transplant. Transplants are life-saving but they are financially draining. Even with insurance, there are many expenses that are not covered and must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, lab fees, travel to and from the Stanford University Hospital and relocation at the time of transplant. In addition, Elaine will be on a life-time of very expensive anti-rejection medications. This puts our family up against a challenge we cannot meet alone and desperately need your help.

A fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the and Southwest Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
