Authorities found a combined 281 kilos of suspected cocaine yesterday during separate operations in Freeport, Grand Bahama and Matthew Town, Inagua.

In the first incident, police discovered 176 kilos of cocaine following a search of a container at the Freeport Container Port around noon, police reported. The drugs, which were found in five large duffel bags, are valued at approximately $3.16 million, according to Chief Superintendent Samuel Butler. There were no arrests up to press time in connection with that find.

Police also reported that Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers acting on intelligence found 105 kilos of cocaine hidden in a compartment onboard a 130-foot vessel at a dock in Matthew Town, where police found drugs and weapons almost two weeks ago. The drugs are valued at approximately $1.9 million.

On January 26, officers searched the same freight vessel and discovered suspected cocaine wrapped in 21 plastic bags and a Kel-Tec submachine gun. Four Haitians and a Bahamian man were arrested in connection with the find, police said.
