A 21-year-old man of Finlayson Street yesterday admitted to violating the conditions of his bail by removing his ankle bracelet. Gregory Butterfield appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to destroying the tracking device, worth $2,270 on December 12.

The monitoring center received a tamper alert but when Butterfield was contacted he denied that he was interfering with the device. However, the bracelet stopped transmitting his location a short time later. Butterfield told the court that he had removed the bracelet and put it on a tree after putting foil on the monitor to interfere with the signal.

Butterfield was arrested on December 23. He led police to the damaged device, which was still on the tree. Butterfield, who was on bail for housebreaking and car theft, has been remanded to prison pending a sentencing hearing on January 5.
