2016 is just a few hours away and while many will bring in the new year with special dinners, champagne and fire works, there is one event that will offer a little something different. Instead of hosting a New Year’s Eve party, the Concepts promotion team will host its annual post-New Year’s event, One Blood XIV, a Holiday Old School Reggae Party. This year’s event will take place on Friday, January 1, 2016 at a new venue called Gypsy Sky, the courtyard at Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant on Parliament Street North. Doors for the event open at 9 pm.

The party aims to take party-goers on a trip down memory lane, as deejays bring back old school reggae tunes from the likes of Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and Sanchez, just to name a few. Music for the throwback reggae party will be provided by two of Nassau’s most skilled and versed deejays when it comes to old school reggae – Selector Ty and his protegé, Selector 3D.

Leah Davis, organiser of the event, explained that the inspiration to host reggae parties came after she recognised a gap in the entertainment market for the over 25 year old that was not being filled, especially given the recent proliferation of soca music and fêtes.

“I have been hosting old school reggae parties since 2004, with the first ones being hosted at Pirates of Nassau. In recent years, the events have been hosted at Bambu on the Prince George Wharf and consistently delivered a musical experience specifically for lovers of old school reggae and dub,” she said. She said the given the genre and era of the music, the event targets “a wide cross section of reggae lovers, young and young at heart.”

Parking will be available across the street from the venue on top of the hill Parliament Street and security will be heightened and enforced.

“This event is always a safe and ‘irie’ experience that my patrons have grown accustomed to and look forward to twice annually. The event will be a fun musical experience where guests will hear songs they have not heard since way back when, laugh and dance the night away.”
