Knowles bounced out of Australian Open

For the second year in a row, Bahamian touring pro Mark Knowles failed to reach the second week of play at the opening grand slam event of the year.
The 39-year-old former World No. 1 doubles player lost in the second round of men’s doubles and the opening round of mixed doubles, both this past weekend, at the $24.7 million Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia.
On Friday, Knowles and his new men’s doubles partner, Michal Mertinak of Slovakia, fell in straight sets, 7-6(3) and 6-0, to American Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer from the Netherlands Antilles.
