Kenneth Eng, My Life In China

What is the definition of success?  What does it mean to make a better life for your family?  Does it come in riches and wealth, or in opportunities and the value of self-worth?  All of these questions and more came to mind as I watched a private viewing of “My Life In China”, a documentary by filmmaker Kenneth Eng which stirs the quintessential questions of basic humanity.

Eng takes us on a journey from mid-20th century China to present day as his father recollects the struggle for a better life, not just for himself, but for his family, and the choices he made to ensure that happened.  From escaping starvation to fighting for the American dream, Eng shows us that the greatest success in life is giving into the lives of the next generation and providing opportunities that allow their stations to improve even if the sacrifices required result in little financial gain for yourself.

“My Life In China” is a moving film that touches the chords of family, community, humanity, and opportunity, in a harmonic way that leaves the viewer feeling emotionally enriched.

"My Life In China" makes its Caribbean debut at the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF), December 11, 2015.
