Halloween is just a few days away — which means you may be greeted by costumed kids looking for treats. Unfortunately, it also means that your car or home may be susceptible to tricks by pranksters. Ideally, a garage offers the best protection for your vehicle. But, if a garage is not an option, the following tips will help you to protect your car this Halloween from paint damage, slashed tires, and broken glass.
Park your car in a well-lit and visible area
Park it in the most visible area of your driveway or yard, or if possible, park your vehicle behind your home. It’s less likely that pranksters will cause damage to a car that is visible to yourself and neighbors.
Apply a coat of wax to your car several days before Halloween
The wax forms a protective layer that makes it more difficult for the acids in eggs, and other items to cause damage to your car. (Steps to waxing your car at home)
If you have an alarm system, make sure that it is on
Pranksters typically look for easy targets where they will not be caught. The loud noises of an alarm system will deter pranksters from carrying out major damage to your vehicle.
Ensure that your windows are rolled all the way up, and the car is locked
If you practice leaving your car unlocked or windows cracked, ensure that you avoid this on Halloween. Make sure that your windows are completely closed, and all doors are locked.
If your car falls victim to Halloween pranks such as “egging,” clean the area as soon as possible with warm, soapy water or glass cleaner. Wiping the mess away with only a towel may cause scratches, and potentially make the damage worse.
The acids in prankster favorites such as eggs, could potentially eat into your car’s paint job, leaving the car vulnerable to rust. The heat of the sun can speed up this process and make the damage worse. If you are not in a position to clean the mess immediately and it becomes baked on your car, never attempt to scrape it off. Instead, opt to clean your car using cleaner-wax. This will do the least amount of damage to your car.
I hope that these tips will help you to protect your car.
