Insurer Colina General has announced that it will waive all administrative fees associated with processing claims related to damage from Hurricane Joaquin.

This will provide financial relief to the claimants and clear the way for claims to be handled expeditiously.

"Our hearts and prayers are with the people of the Central and Southeast Bahamas who have been affected by the devastation left behind by Hurricane Joaquin," the company said in a statement.

"Colina General, as an intermediary, will ultimately refer all claims to our insurers for settlement. However, we have a duty to ensure that the hassles, delays, and unintended complications are minimized and that settlements are carried out as smoothly and quickly as possible."

Hurricane Joaquin, which was a Category 4 storm, directly hit the islands of Acklins, Long Island, Crooked Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador last week. There has been catastrophic damage on some of these islands.

Colina General expects its adjudication period for storm claims to be quick, as a review of its book of business for the islands indicates that the company's exposure is limited.
