Crime and the Christian community

Dear Editor,

It really surprises me how much time we Bahamians put into blaming the politicians for the crime situation and the breakdown of society. It is so obvious to me that it is the Christian community's fault.

First there are the "bring back the noose" wackos who can't wait for a good hangin' as long as it is "not my good child". Then there is the "take back the night" crowd who are always praying for a miracle. Haven't they noticed? After every gathering, after every prayer meeting, after every new spiritual radio station goes on the air, the crime gets worse. Perhaps the "bring back the night" crowd needs to "take to their bed".

Then there's the Fox Hill prophet with his megaphone wailing that Jesus is on his way and the Village Road prophetess with her signage saying "Jesus is coming soon" (Yeah, right). How soon is soon by the way? Then again, how rapid is rapid, how quick is quick?

What about the Christians who go to church on Saturday and Sunday then cabaret all day Monday? God is not to be mocked.

Then there are the end times evangelisti and the doomsday apocalypti who are praying for more bloodshed here and in the Middle East, the better to hasten Christ's return so he can establish his kingdom on Earth. I guess ignorance is bliss.

You see, Editor, God isn't sitting around playing poker with Emmanu-El, Gabri-El, Micha-El and Rapha-El. Is it possible that the high crime rate is the Christian's god's punishment to the Christian community for keeping the flock dumb and ignorant while this same community turns a blind eye to the sexual and other abuse of boys and girls by some men and women of the cloth?

Perhaps the Christian god is tired of tithes and love offerings going to the pastor's wife or girlfriend or what have you.

Yes, it is time for Bahamians, especially the Christian community, to admit the truth. We brought this on ourselves.

Have a nice pray.
