One of the seven worldwide principles of co-operatives is "the concern for community".
While focusing on members' needs, cooperatives also work to improve the quality of life in the communities in which they serve.

The Teachers and Salaried Workers Co-operative Credit Union Limited in adhering to these co-operative principles decided many years ago to give back to less fortunate young people.

Each year it hosts and sponsors community and summer events bringing together children within these communities from five schools to help improve the quality of their lives.

Even though the events bring together the children, whole families are embraced.

In furthering its community and cooperative spirit, the board of directors, management, staff and the members of the credit union have donated school bags for all of the children who reside in the Bilney Lane Children's Home and the Ranfurly Homes for Children.
